Collections Officer


Musquodoboit Harbour Heritage Society has received funding under the Job Creation Partnership for a Collections Officer for the Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum. Candidates for the position must meet the criteria of the program including:

  • have a current Employment Insurance (EI) claim or

  • have had an EI claim that ended within the last five years or

  • have been employed with gross insurable earnings of $2000 or higher annually, in at least 5 of the last 10 years’

Job Details:


The position is 35 hours per week until November, 2019


The Museum Collections Officer reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for maintaining the Museum’s collection compatible with accepted museum standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum.

Duties of the Museum Collections Officer include:



  1.          Oversee and coordinate the development of all displays according to the approved interpretation plan.

  2.          Process, record and maintain artifacts within the museum.

  3.          Maintain and update a cataloguing system.

  4.          Enter all information on items in the collection into the museum’s electronic database and post for                   external audience.

  5.          Conduct research to verify information on items in the collection.

  6.          Maintain a picture library of the collection as part of the database.

  7.          Train and manage staff working with the collection at the museum.
