Collections Assistant

The Collections Assistant will assist the Museum Curator with collections related aspects of exhibitions, loans, and public programs. This includes organizing collections lists, updating the database, preparing condition reports, and gathering information for exhibition labels. The student will help with the museum’s overall goal to complete the re-cataloging and digitization of our current collection. 

 

The Assistant must be organized and detailed oriented and will perform other related duties as required. The Assistant will be trained by the Curator, skills in cataloging, museum standards and policy, database software, artifact handling and preservation, archival collections arrangement, photographing, acquisitions, storage, and research procedures. They will gain problem-solving, research, and leadership skills under the direction of the Museum Curator. 

 

The setting will provide experience in working as a team, working collaboratively with other programs and exhibitions, and the importance of preserving history for future generations.

 

This position is seasonal full-time and suitable for a student. 

 

The Collections Assistant will possess the following skills:

-organized

-detailed oriented

-self-starter

-excellent time management skills

-basic research skills

-past experience in a museum setting is an asset

-no diploma or certificate is required, as we will train the employee

-high level of computer competency needed

This position is seasonal full-time at 35 hours/week, pays $17/hr, and is suitable for a student aged 16-30.

This position's start date is May 13th, 2024, and the position ends on August 31st, 2024. 

All positions are dependent on funding approval.
