Visitor Services - Part Time: 2 Positions Available

The Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum is seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic and team-oriented individual with exceptional organizational skills to ensure excellence in retail and visitor services to clients and visitors.  
 

You will assist with visitor services including giving directions and recommendations about local tourist activities, receiving donations from visitors, reception duties, recording visitor statistics, coordinating promotional activities and special events, interpreting museum exhibits, conducting tours, providing an enhanced visitor experience, and other duties as required. 
 

You will also assist with maintaining and stocking gift shop displays, maintaining an inventory, taking special requests, retail sales, and displaying and maintaining inventory for resale products. You will maintain and operate cash registers for admissions and retail sales, ensuring that cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for answering the museum’s main telephone line and passing messages on to the appropriate staff or board member.
 

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have at least one season of related experience, preferably in a museum setting. 
 

You will also possess the following:

  • Previous retail experience

  • Experience with cash handling, POS, and inventory control systems;

  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and,

  • Knowledge of local events, lodgings, and other tourist information

  • An interest in the history of Musquodoboit Harbour
     

Assets include training or certification in tourism, hospitality, retail, and/or museum studies, certification in first aid and WHMIS, and the ability to speak French or German.

The setting will provide experience in working as a team, working collaboratively with other programs and exhibitions, and the importance of preserving history for future generations.

 

This position is 16 hours per week, seasonal part-time. This employee reports to the Museum Curator.
 

This position's start date is June 29th, 2024 This position ends on August 31st, 2024.
