The Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum is currently seeking applications for our Collections Assistant position. The position runs from May 3rd to August 31st. Due to funding requirements for this position, candidates must be students enrolled in full-time studies prior to, and after, the work term and must be under the age of 30. 

Collections Assistant 

Position Description: The Collections Assistant will assist the Museum Curator with collections-related aspects of artifact cataloging, exhibitions, loans, and public programs. 
These tasks include: 
-Reviewing, organizing, updating, and filing existing Accessions files. 
-Accessioning new artifacts into the collection 
-Preparing condition reports for artifacts, 
-Research for the purposes of gathering information for exhibition labels. 
-Photographing artifacts. 
-Assisting the Curator in the creation of the museum's Memory Box program, in partnership with The Birches Nursing Home. -Assisting the Curator and Multimedia & Programming Assistant in the creation of a virtual school toolbox. 
-Assisting the Curator in the creation of a physical school programming kit. 
-Digitizing the Accessions files into an online database that is publicly accessible. 
The ideal candidate for the Collections Assistant position will possess the following skills: 
-organized 
-detailed oriented 
-self-starter 
-excellent time management skills 
-basic research skills 
-past experience in a museum setting is an asset 
-no diploma or certificate is required, as we will train the employee 
-demonstrated passion for local history 
-high level of computer competency needed

The Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum is currently seeking applications for our Visitor Services position. The position runs from June 28th to August 31st. Due to funding requirements for this position, candidates must be students enrolled in full-time studies prior to, and after, the work term and must be under the age of 30. 

Visitor Services
Position Description 
Visitor Services staff are the face of our museum. Responsibilities include welcoming visitors, giving directions and recommendations about local tourist activities, receiving donations, reception duties, recording visitor statistics, coordination of promotional activities and special events, interpretation of museum exhibits, conducting guided tours, generally providing an enhanced visitor experience, and other duties as required.


Visitor Services staff will also assist with maintaining and stocking gift shop displays, maintaining an inventory, taking special requests, retail sales, and displaying and maintaining inventory for resale products. They will maintain and operate cash registers for admissions, pass, and retail sales, ensuring that cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures. Visitor Services staff will also be responsible for answering the museum's main telephone line and passing messages on to the appropriate staff or board member. 


About You 
To be successful in this role, you will have at least one season of related experience, preferably in a museum setting. 
You will also possess the following: Previous retail experience Experience with cash handling, POS, and inventory control systems; Demonstrated excellence in organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; and, Knowledge of local events, lodgings, and other tourist information An interest in the history of Musquodoboit Harbour 
Assets include training or certification in tourism, hospitality, retail, and/or museum studies, certification in first aid and WHMIS, and the ability to speak French or German.
